National Sandwich Week

The sandwich is such a pivotal item in our lives. Actually it’s so much so that society has had to dedicate a week to its existence (how very quintessentially British of us). As office caterers, our love of the sandwich is no secret and we can’t resist putting our own spin on the classic ham and cheese or even adding some creativity to the ever-popular egg mayonnaise, so we’ve decided to have a brainstorm at the Kudos Delivered labs and have come up with some of the greatest sandwiches of all time. Sandwich making is part of our existence, so in ode to arguably the greatest lunchtime meal to have ever existed, here are five of our all-time favourites.

Pumpkin and goats’ cheese

A surprising favourite but a very popular choice at Kudos Delivered is this interesting and delicious combination, most requested during the autumn and winter seasons. The choice of fillings is both sweet and savoury, giving the sandwich a burst of flavour with every bite. The sweetness of the pumpkin acts as a ying to the cheese’s yang, and the result is a delectably delicious sandwich. If you’d like to try some of our own, click here and experience flavour freedom.

BLT

Joythebaker

This list just wouldn’t be complete without the iconic BLT. The recipe for the sandwich dates back to the early 1900s, with one cookbook even referring to the creation without its initials! The abbreviation to ‘BLT’ is thought to have come from the American restaurant industry post-1950s. Today the sandwich is enjoyed in restaurants all over the world, from The Bahamas to Bulgaria. Our foodie tip is to try creating your own BLT with thick, pan-fried shallot and herb bread topped with garlic mayonnaise.

Grilled cheese

Eatmorris

People go wild at the thought of a grilled cheese sandwich and we really can’t blame them. Just look at them, in their Emmental entirety. Of course we don’t need to tell you how to make one, but feel free to experiment to your heart’s content with fillings. If you want our two cents, try the pulled pork, avocado and herb grilled cheese. We’re not making any promises but it may just be the best grilled cheese sandwich you’ve ever had.

Cuban

Chowhound

A huge hit in America, the Cuban is definitive of everything we stand for. Succulent roast pork, delectable melted Swiss cheese, glazed ham and pickles are brought together with warm, traditional Cuban bread in an explosion of flavours that would make even the most esteemed sandwich creator proud. This delicious creation was commonly eaten by Cuban workers travelling to and from Florida in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Our tip is to look out for sandwich vendors who use Cuban bread as it isn’t a real Cuban without it!

Egg mayo

GreatBritishMenu

Another Brit favourite that we still can’t get enough of is the traditional egg mayonnaise. Egg mayonnaise is one of the most popular sandwiches on our platter, and it really does reign supreme. In true Kudos Delivered fashion, we don’t just serve up egg mayonnaise sandwiches, we like to put our own spin on them to make palates pop and flavours… well… flavoursome. Try something different by using free-range eggs and gherkin in the filling to add a hint of sourness to take the edge off the sweetness of the mayonnaise. Want to try our very own egg mayo? Of course you do. Everything you need to know can be found here.
